📷 The Albany Berkshire Ballet (ABB) is proud to present its 44th annual tour of the holiday classic The Nutcracker.
The production was choreographed by Artistic Director Madeline Cantarella Culpo. Sets and scenery were created by theater and movie set designer Carl Sprague, a Stockbridge native, and costumes were designed by Rita Watson and Victile Donahue.
The Nutcracker will feature local dance students in special children’s roles alongside the professional dancers of the ABB. This year’s professional company includes dancers from around the United States, as well as International.
A holiday favorite, The Nutcracker tells the story of a young girl, Clara, and the magical dream she has one Christmas Eve.
Set to Tchaikovsky’s timeless music, the story of The Nutcracker follows the adventures of Clara and her Nutcracker Prince as they conquer the Mouse King and embark on a magical journey to The Land of Sweets.
ABB’s 2018 The Nutcracker annual production will visit four cities throughout the Northeast. The 2018 tour includes more than 500 young students, including 17 young dancers who will have the opportunity to portray the beloved role of Clara. These student dancers will have the opportunity to dance alongside the company’s 15 professional dancers as they bring this holiday classic to more than 7,000 delighted audience members.
ABB has been bringing this acclaimed production throughout the Northeast since 1974. This year the first stop of the tour will be at the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts in Burlington, VT on November 24 th and 25 th for three performances.
Following will be the beautiful Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield, MA on December 1st and 2nd for four shows. On December 8th and December 9th ABB will perform three shows at The Egg at the Empire State Plaza in Albany, NY. The tour then heads east to Springfield, MA concluding at Symphony Hall with two shows on December 16th.
Albany Berkshire Ballet is proud to have the support of Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, a native son of the City of Springfield, as he makes his debut as Mother Ginger in The Nutcracker performing at Symphony Hall in Springfield, MA on December 15th at the 1:00PM performance.
